‘Time’ [Theme from ‘Inception’] - Hans Zimmer
Another of Zimmer’s highlights of 2010 - So simple, yet so brilliant.
As a songwriter I have written many songs using just four chords (in this example Zimmer uses A minor, E minor, G major, D Major), but the way that Zimmer uses the instrumentation of the orchestra to build up such a powerful and emotional crescendo like he manages to do here is just mind blowing.
I’m really curious to see what cover a of this song could be like if i were to record it. The final piano bars of the piece could be easily replicated by an acoustic guitar and the string sections can be emulated by the use of electric guitar accompanied by number of options to replicate the strings timbre; either a volume pedal, or a technique that I learned called violining (where the player uses the volume control on the body of the guitar to emulate the sound of a violin), or some sort of filter.
The only problem for me would be how I would replicate the horns. The only thing that I have that is anything like a horn is a kazoo, which I’m not too sure will make the cut somehow..
