Stornoway - Beachcomber’s Windowsills
The first time I ever saw Stornoway play live was last year on Later.. With Jools Holland, along with Sting, Norah Jones, Jay-Z and Foo Fighters. To say that the Oxford band were at the time unsigned, that is a big a very gig to play: and they were fantastic. Their performance sort of undermined the acts of both Foo Fighters and Jay-Z who were I guess the ‘main stage performers’ on the show.
Half a year later and deciding to sign with the independent label 4AD, I finally have a record to drool over by the band: ‘Beachcomber’s Windowsills’. The production values of the record make the music even that much more fantastic than the live counterpart. Not to say I wouldn’t love to see Stornoway live. In fact I may just go find out where they’re playing this summer..
